November 5, 1957, a group of community citizens met at the Tranquil Masonic Lodge No. 48, Mt. Meigs, Alabama, with three objectives in mind: (1). To provide wholesome recreation; (2). To sponsor educational programs; and (3). To upgrade family life in the following communities: Mitylene, Mt. Meigs, Waugh, Cecil, Pike Road, and Mathews, Alabama, on a nondiscriminatory basis. The group was organized and named the "Communities Improvement Association, Incorporated," a non-profit organization. "Hereafter known as the Community Improvement Association, a 501(c)(3)."
The general nature of the business to be transacted by this corporation shall be to promote the welfare of the children, youth, and adults in the home, school, church, and communities; to provide wholesome recreation and educational activities; to raise the standard of living in the communities; and to institute education programs and scholarships through conferences, committees, and projects.
